uncle mac, auntie bonny here. we are so proud of you. we tell everybody what you are doing! you're so lucky (i know hard work comes into it too!) justtried to phone mum but they're out.
anna, can you tell me about the religions in peru and the animals? how do you manage with insects! ugh!
Hope it is not TOO hot back in England! Good to see you have got your internet working ok. In awful internet cafe, so excuse typing. Bloody hot here, bloody cold too, not sure where I am most of the time.
Here the religion is mainly Catholic, though it is quite tightly bound to the indigenous religion. For example, when people drink the local drink chica (fermented corn type stuff), they always first pour a little onto the ground and say "Pachamama," which is like an offering to the earth mother. I went to a church the other day, apparently it is just like any Catholic service but with people walking in and out, much more people than there are chairs, and lots of noise generally.
In terms of animals, we see a lot of llamas and sheep being herded around, and there are always random cows, pigs and donkeys standing around the middle of the road. There are bloody horrid mangy dogs EVERYWHERE! They just wander the streets, pooing all over the place, and sometimes they attack people, but we just throw rocks at them. And there are no bugs! It is too high for mosquitos (though unfortunately not for fleas - ow), someone said they saw a tarantula in a forest, but I am not going up there! If I go to the jungle I am sure I will many more intersting things. Ooh, I saw a parrot! That was cool.
Let me know your email address, you can get mum to email it to me, not a good idea to put personal info. on a website.
